About Me

Susan Solo Photography

Hello there! I'm Debbie and let me tell you a little bit about myself.

I am passionate about food. I love eating it and love sharing it. I'm the happiest when I eat intuitively and focus on whole and healthy foods. Let's be honest though, I love desserts and snacks and believe everything works in moderation. Life is about balance, not depravation.

I recently married the love of my life, Adam, and am enjoying life as a newlywed. Cooking for the two of us is especially challenging since I am a vegetarian and Adam is a meat and potatoes kind of guy. I try to find dishes that I can easily customize for both our diets or vegetarians meals that are so delicious he doesn't mind the no meat eats.

I also love photography. I'm drawn to color and details and the process of photographing food and nature is extremely soothing. I shoot with a Canon Rebel T1i and unless noted, all photographs on my blog are me (unmarked pics on this page are by friends).

One of my photo's in Old Town Alexandria.

I've played various sports from the young age of eight and then continued on to play competitively for four years at the University of Mary Washington. Now that I've graduated (several years ago, yikes), it's an adjustment to shift from extremely structured physical activity to building my own workout plan. It's been an exciting journey to discover new ways of taking care of myself and to change the focus from winning to simply being healthy.

I enjoy running and will one day get the courage to sign up for a race for the first time have now completed my first race and a 10 miler!. A couple years back I branched out and took a yoga class at a local studio. Yoga is now a consistent balancing force in my life.  It's a perfect complement to working in an office all day.

Some random tidbits for you ... I'm number 6 out of 7 kids and the baby girl of my family. My grandma lived with my family for 11 years including my middle school and high school days and she was an excellent baker.

I am trying to get over the fact that your mother had enough patience to have 7 children! I can barely handle the one I have. Your mom is a saint. :)

You and your fiance are so cute!

Deb, I see why you had to strike through the "boyfriend" and replace him with a "fiance!" This blog highlights the essence that food can unite people from differing palates, if we are open enough to meet them where they are at! You didn't try to change or force it down his throat.. you found a middle ground. You still do you while allowing others to be themselves! Thanks for sharing your take in a fresh, non-judgemental and inclusive way!
